About the author

Priya North

Amateur sky watcher

I watch the sky from a small garden in Christchurch and keep an observing notebook beside the back door. I work as an education administrator and enjoy finding simple ways to explain an idea without disguising the parts I am still learning. My astronomy interests began with binoculars, a borrowed guide and a patient look at the Moon.

Backyard Sky records familiar objects, changing conditions and the practical habits that make a short observing session worthwhile. I write as an enthusiastic amateur, distinguish a personal impression from an explanation and link to scientific sources when a claim needs more than a garden notebook.

I enjoy careful sketches, repeat visits to the same patch of sky and nights that reveal less than expected. My other interests include walking, public science talks and making soup for friends who have been persuaded to spend a chilly evening looking up.
